Construction Trade Apprenticeships
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (“JATC”) on behalf of the Multi-skilled Apprenticeship and Training Fund (“MSATF”) is accepting applications for Electrician, Construction Craft Laborer, Surveyor, Assistant Carpenter, Dock Builder, Reinforcing Metal Worker, Universal Equipment Operator, and Mason Apprentices. This is a perfect opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the construction trades.
The MSATF developed the Multi-skilled Apprenticeship Program (“MSAP”) to help meet construction industry demands for skilled craftspeople. The program is approved by the United States Department of Labor (“USDOL). The apprenticeship program helps contractors maintain a safe and skilled workforce. Quality performance is critical for bringing construction projects in on time and under budget.
Because of the length of the program, commitment to the classroom and on-the-job performance requirements, one should not enter into the program lightly. The JATC looks for candidates who want to become career journey workers. The goal of the JATC is to launch qualified candidates into successful careers as skilled Journey Workers. The method for selecting apprentices is approved by the DOL and encourages minorities and women to apply.
After completing the apprenticeship program, graduates receive a journey level card and certificate of completion from the USDOL. More importantly, they will have the skills and credentials necessary to succeed in today's competitive workforce.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
MSAP Apprentices are employed by USW union Contractors and earn competitive wages and benefits, all while working on the job. Salaries are based on a percentage of the journey worker rate. The DOL and JATC require a minimum number of years of on the job learning as well as Related Instruction, which is completed at home on your own time. This will be presented at a mandatory orientation session, given before you would first report to work. A drug and physical screening will be required at this time. There will be no cost to the apprentice for this testing.
A normal work week is 40 hours. However, due to the nature of this industry, hours may vary depending upon weather conditions, other trades, job delays or other unforeseen situations. Apprentices should be prepared to travel 60-80 miles to the job site and may be required to report to work at varying times. The distance traveled to work can drastically change depending on the project location. Dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required.
